In Texas Hold'em each player is dealt two pocket or hole cards. Five community cards (three on the flip, one on each turn and one at the river) are flipped on Texas Hold'em. To make the best five-card poker hand, players must use their pocket and five community cards. There are three rounds of betting: one before the flop; one after the turn card; and one last round after the river. The object of the game is to come up with the best hand, or force the players around you to fold.

These cards are dealt face down. Players will attempt the best five-card hand by using any combination possible of the 7 cards that they have (2 shared cards and 5 private cards). The Dealer will then deal cards one at a time to each person clockwise around the table starting with the small blind. Each player will then be dealt two cards at a time, each one of which is their own card as per the above. Dealing should end with the last card being dealt to the dealer.

Hi/Lo Omaha poker is another variant. You can also win with a hi/low hand by holding completely garbage cards. For example, a player holding A, 2, 3, 4, 6 would likely have a lo hand and win the pot. If another player had a high hand (for exemple, two pairs), then the pot would split between them.

Omaha poker's goal is to make a 5-card hand that is better than any other player at a table. The game is played with a 52-card standard deck and can comfortably accommodate a number of players, ranging from two to ten.

Because of its influence on American and English culture poker is now a common lingo. Phrase such as ace in the hold, ace up one's sleeve, beats me, blue chip, call one's bluff, cash in, high roller, pass the buck, poker face, stack up, up the ante, when the chips are down, wild card and many others are in use in everyday conversation even by those unaware of their origins are at the poker table.
